Once upon a time...

Turn back the clock to 1998 and you'll find that the Information Architect was a very different discipline. Hiring managers were looking for Library Science degrees then. Job requisitions for IAs were filled with words like "taxonomy", and "hierarchy" and "interaction". Tactics were the name of the IAs game. Today's top IAs are working deep in the strategy of the product - they are the inventors and R&D branch for some of the web's most powerful tools.

60% of my time (or more) is spent cross-pollinating ideas from dev to design and then up to execs. Today's IA has to get everyone on the same page by doing more than drawing.

What's your experience?
